Why Raducanu made a mistake to hire an expert coach. TENNIS LEGEND

This is the reason why it was probably not a great idea for Emma Raducanu to hire Torben Beltz according to seven-time Grand Slam champion

Emma Raducanu

Emma Raducanu was absolutely delighted to announce that she hired Torben Beltz as her new coach. Torben is an extremely knowledgeable coach with fantastic experience and an incredible pedigree. The German coach was essential for Angelique Kerber to win 3 slams and become the world number 1.

Coaching doubts

Tennis legend and seven-time Grand Slam champion Mats Wilander is not hundred percent convinced that it was a good move for Emma to hire such an expert coach. According to the former world number one, Emma may risk losing her freedom under such a strong guide.

Mats commented:

“We mustn’t forget that it wasn’t like we didn’t know who she was. We knew she had a huge game. They [upcoming players] need to play the way they want to play, and they need to find out how good they are, and they need to ride the wave of youth and confidence for as far as they can before you start hiring coaches that have helped players to win Grand Slams.

She knows how to win a Grand Slam. She won one. She needs to have fun, she needs to be allowed to do what she wants to do off and on the tennis court, and she needs to develop in her own time and not to force coaches on her.”
