Why Djokovic will play the Australian Open despite mandatory vaccination as per former coach

This is why Novak Djokovic will play the Australian Open

Boris Becker And Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic is well-known for not being extremely keen on vaccinations. However, in order to compete at the upcoming Australian Open, tennis players need to be fully vaccinated.

This is a huge dilemma for Djokovic who has won the Slam Down Under already 9 times and he would be the hot favorite to get his tenth. Winning another slam would also allow Djokovic to break yet another record to be the first and only man in history to have won 21 majors.

What ex-coach Boris Becker said

Tennis legend Boris Becker is a close friend of Novak and he used to coach the Serbian sensation for many years. According to the German champion, Novak will not miss the upcoming edition of the Australian Open simply because he loves competing too much and he likes breaking records.

Boris commented:

I can’t imagine that he won’t play in Australia. He loves the sport too much for that, he loves tennis history too much for that. He wants to reach the 21 Grand Slam wins. Australia is his best Grand Slam. He has already won nine times there. Why shouldn’t he win a 10th time?

But if he wants to play on the tennis tour, then you just have to follow the rules. That means you have to be vaccinated in order to play”.
