Being ranked the number 4, Stefanos Tsitsipas is one of the most successful tennis players in the world. However, things were not always easy for the Greek sensation. When Tsitsipas was developing his tennis, Greece was in a rather horrible moment facing a huge economic crisis. During a recent interview with Italian outlet La Stampa, Stefanos confessed that it was very taxing from a mental point of view for him to deal with that situation.
Unfortunately, Tsitsipas revealed that he was also a target of some unpleasant remarks. Nevertheless, he used those remarks as a spring to success.
Stefanos commented:
“I lived the period of the full-blown crisis very badly. I felt little considered: Greece was in chaos, so I, too ended up in chaos.
This is how racism works and I experienced it on my skin, I suffered it. It also gave me the strength to move away from a stereotype. However, those gratuitous insults triggered the desire to prove who I really was and what the Greeks are capable of. The economic collapse was a failure of politics, not of people but at a certain point, it was as if meaning had been lost. They put me in the middle.”
“There are people who identify you with the problems of the place you come from. And there are many. Greece was a mess and I had to be a mess too. And then the ones who accused me of not giving a damn because I played tennis. It was tough and that phase taught me not to make judgments, to try to evaluate who I am in front of for how they really behave,” he added.
Stefanos Tsitsipas will face Andrey Rublev in the opening match of the ATP Finals. They clashed against each other 8 times. Their actual record is 4-4. Previously, the last time they played each other, Stefanos Tsitsipas won 6-3 6-3 in the final in Monte-Carlo (Monte) on the 18th
