Dominika Cibulkova and Garbine Muguruza are 2 of the most interesting players of the year and they are climbing fast in the rankings.
Cibulkova
The Czech was the Australian Open runner-up and now she has won her 4th career title in Acapulco. The last achievement gave the opportunity to Dominika to reach a world no.11 career high.
Muguruza
Garbine is a very interesting prospect. The 20 years-old from Spain has won an incredible title in Hobart in January coming straight from the qualifications without dropping a single set (see article). Now Garbine was inches away from winning her 2nd title in Florianapolis. Unfortunately she couldn’t make it as she lost after she was leading 6-4 5-2 against Zakopalova. But reaching this final allowed the Spaniard to gain 4 places to be ranked at a world no.32 career high.
Zakopalova
After winning this incredible final in Florianapolis against Muguruza, Klara gained 3 places to be ranked world no.29.
Biggest gainers: Mchale, Shevdova
Christina Mchale and Yaroslava Shvedova are the biggest gainers (15 places). Mchale reached the final in Acapulco and she is now ranked world on.44; Shvedova reached the semi-final in Florianapolis and she is now ranked world no. 64.
The biggest loser: Karolina Pliskova
Karoline didn’t play this week, so she couldn’t defend the point she got last year when she won the Malaysian Open in the same period. The Czech lost 16 places to be ranked world no.67.
