Dimitrov wins the title in Acapulco!

It’s Dimitrov no.2!

The Bulgarian wins his 2nd career title after a huge fight against a good Kevin Anderson.

Grigor played an excellent first set to win a great breaker at 1. In the second set The South African started in great fashion to grab a decisive 3-0 lead and wrap up the set 6-3.

At that point Anderson looked to be the favourite to win the title as Dimitrov looked a bit passive and his tennis was not working anymore. The South African broke Grigor in the 3rd set (2-1) and he was just cruising.  But Kevin had a horrible 8th game to surrender his service with a terrible double fault. The South African was choking and Dimitrov got full advantage of it to bring the set to another tie break.

The  3rd set tiebreak was bad news again for Anderson that squandered a 4-2 lead to lose 7-5.

Kevin Anderson played a great offensive match, but eventually 7 double faults nd 52 unforced errors were just too much!

Dimitrov: This title means a lot to me

“Belief is the only thing that kept me going today. I didn’t think I was going to come back after last night’s match. I’m really happy. This title means a lot to me.

“Every match I played was really tough, especially the last three where I played three sets.”

Grigor will be ranked world no.16 after this title (a career high)
