Paolo Lorenzi and Federico Delbonis are the two big surprises in Sao Paulo.
Ranked world no. 114, the Italian was the clear underdog against Tommy Haas, but the German had to retire due to a problem to his shoulder when he was 3-6 2-3 down.
The pain surfaced after Tommy threw his racket when he was broken in the 6th game in the 1st set (3-3)
Haas commented “After I threw my racket when I got broken at three-all I felt a lot of pain in my shoulder and it never really got away. The pain was getting worse. And the smart player’s decision has to be not to continue, unfortunately.”
This is the first ATP final for Paolo Lorenzi that will play Federico Delbonis. The Argentine had to fight through a 2 hours and 9 minutes 3 setter against home favourite Thomaz Bellucci.
This will be the first match between Lorenzi and DelBonis.
