Great stuff from Grigor Dimitrov!
The Bulgarian beats a tough Ernests Gulbis 4-6 7-6 (2) 7-5 in a 2hours and 39 minutes match.
The match started with 4 back to back breaks (something really strange for such good servers), then Gulbis won the decisive break in the 10th game (6-4).
Grigor started the 2nd set in great fashion to break Ernests at 0 in the very first game. The Bulgarian surrendered his serve once again in the 4th game (2-2) and the set went straight to the tiebreak that Dimitrov won with a comfortable 7-2.
The third set was a real fight. Dimitrov broke Gulbis in the 6th game (4-2) at 0 to then drop his serve soon after (4-3). Finally the Bulgarian won the decisive break in the 12th game when everybody was expecting a third set tiebreak.
The key of the match was Gulbis’ second serve. In fact he fired 15 aces, but he committed a mind blowing (or “Sharapova like”) 12 double faults. Even worse Gulbis won just 22% points on his second serve (8 out of 37).
Next vs. Murray
Dimitrov will play Andy Murray in the semifinal. Head to Head is 3-0 for Andy, but the Scott is definitely not playing his best tennis while Grigor is in top form… so … the Bulgarian could be the favorite in here.
