Emma Raducanu surprised the tennis world after announcing that she parted ways with her coach soon after winning the US Open title. According to some pundits (Tracy Austin), that was not a great move since Emma needs some stability soon after winning such an important title and be immediately thrown in the spotlight.
About her new coach
During a recent interview, Raducanu was asked if she had found a new coach. She publicly said that she wanted a coach with good experience at WTA level. Raducanu revealed that she is not that anxious about having a new coach:
“I think having a coach is great. But once again, you are on your own on the court. I don’t think it is great to be dependant. You need to coach yourself. That is something I am learning.
Part of the experience I am having is being able to learn to coach myself. Sometimes it won’t always work, like in Indian Wells, but in the long term, if I keep doing that, then I will be better in the situations in the future,” she said.
Emma was seen training with Johanna Konta’s former coach Esteban Carril. However, the 18-year-old revealed that she also tried some other coaches. She said:
“I had a couple of trials this last week. I had a trial with Esteban. But I’ve also had trials with others.
I am feeling optimistic about trying to have something in place for the off-season and the Australian Open. No, I haven’t decided on the coach. But things are moving forward.”
Emma is currently in Romania, where she is about to play the WTA the 250 in Cluj-Napoca seeded number 3.
