Djokovic upset by Nishikori in Basel

Delivering one of the biggest 2011 upsets,
the world nr 32 had a surprising victory over Novak Djokovic in 3 sets 2-6 7-6
(4) 6-0

Besides a good 2nd round, the Serb looked
awkward throughout the tournament. He won 2 matches in 3 sets with
not-so-impossible players   (Malisse and Baghdatis) and he showed some physical
issues. Maybe his triumphant season has been too tough on his revitalized body
and it is taking a toll. This has been confirmed by the fact that the Serb had to
be treated twice from a pretty nasty pain in his left shoulder during the
match.

The Japanese is obviously elated. After
been outraced in the first set, he got his tennis back. ‘In the first set I was
actually playing terrible. In the second set I started playing well and getting
a rhythm.’ Said Nishikori.

He was getting impossible balls back and really making me play every
shot,’ said Djokovic, who was coming off a six-week break to treat a back
injury.

‘He was better and I didn’t use the opportunities I had. I don’t think I
should speak about that third set.’

Novak record is now 68-4 (a lot of matches…)
and interesting enough he lost 2 matches for injuries retirements.

Nishikori will now play the final against
Roger Federer that warmed him up for the match.

The Swiss Maestro is the favorite… but he’d
better be careful…
