Novak Djokovic won 9 Australian Open, and he has 20 majors under his belt, the same as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. It’s well-known that Novak Djokovic aspires to become the no.1 male player in terms of slam titles.
Unfortunately, it is becoming more and more plausible that the Serbian sensation will not play the upcoming Australian Open. Novak is notoriously against vaccination, and it seems that been vaccinated will be a crucial component to play the first slam of the year. According to rumors, the unvaccinated players will have to observe a period of 2 weeks in hard quarantine as soon as they arrive in Australia.
Djokovic about playing in Australia
Everything needs to be confirmed, and Djokovic is waiting for the final decision from the government of Victoria. However, Novak does not hide the fact that he is not 100% sure he will play Australian Open.
During a recent interview with the Blic, the world’s number 1 revealed:
“If I understood correctly, the government and Tennis Australia will make the final decision in two weeks time. Just like this year, there will be a lot of restrictions. From what I have heard from my agent, who is in contact with Tennis Australia, they are trying to improve the conditions for all the players, both vaccinated and unvaccinated.
Considering all that, I still do not know whether I will play in Melbourne. There is excessive speculation from the media as well, which bothers me a lot. I have not spoken too much because everyone was making assumptions based on something I have said a year ago.”
The schedules
While Novak is not sure about his presence in Melbourne, the Serbian sensation will definitely play the ATP1000 in Bercy, the ATP finals in Turin, and the Davis Cup.
