Tsonga, Berdych advance in Rotterdam

Tsonga and Berdych reach the second round in Rotterdam

Tsonga

Seeded no.5, Jo had to rally from 1 set down with Florian Mayer. Tsonga had some problems in the first set to concede the decisive break in the 3rd game (1-2) and lose the opener 6-4. In the second set Jo won the decisive break in the 8th game (5-3) to clinch the set 6-3. The decider was a walk in the park for the Frenchman that won 6 consecutive games after losing the first game. The final result was 4-6 6-3 6-1. See match Stats.

Jo will play the second round against either Rosol or Cilic (that has just won the title in Zagreb).

Berdych

The seed no.3 had a very smooth match against world no. 31 Andreas Seppi. The Czech conceded only 6 games to the Italian that has lost his serve 3 times (Tomas hasn’t conceded a single break point).

The total point scored was 63 for Berdych and 41 for Seppi. See match Stats.

Berdych commented “It was a good and solid start to the tournament. He was not an easy opponent, having played well in Australia. I enjoy playing here. It would be an honour to add my name on the trophy, among great players and legends. But this year, as always, it is a very strong field.”

In the next round Tomas will play a Frenchman and that will be either Gilles Simon or Nicolas Mahut.
