That was an easy final for Fabio Fognini that has conceded just 6 games to Leonardo Mayer in 83 minutes.
The real test for Fabio was more in the semifinal when he has defeated Almagro in 3 tough sets (see article).
The final was never a struggle for Fognini that raced to a 4-0 lead to win the opening set 6-2. In the second the Italian got the decisive break in the 3rd game to finally win the set 6-4. The difference between the two players is rather clear when you have a look at the total points scored (78 Fognini and 55 Mayer). See match Stats
Fognini: It’s an important title
Fognini was elated by his 3rd career title to comment “This was another important week for me. I was coming from reaching the fourth round at the Australian Open after overcoming an injury I had earlier in the year. I couldn’t ask for a better start of the season. It’s the third title, it’s important, and now I go to Buenos Aires with a lot of confidence”.
Mayer: I was sick
Leonardo was deeply disappointed by his performance “I didn’t play that well today and he played incredible. I was sick in the morning, I almost didn’t play, but later the doctors and I decided that I could play.”
Fognini will now go to Buenos Aires where he is seeded no. 2
