Easy stuff for Australia against Russia that once again is completely unable to play with a competitive team. Last year the final against Italy was a sort of farce with Russian showing up with single players ranked as high as world no. 136 and no. 236… not a good thing for a credible Fed Cup final.
This year Russia wasn’t any betterand it came again with Irina Khromacheva (now world no. 241), world no.650 and 16 years-old Veronika Kudermetova and world no.158 Victoria Kan. Bad to say… but.. Why bother?
So these were the results:
Dellacqua – Khromacheva 6-2 6-0
Stosur – Kudermetova 6-4 6-0
Stosur – Ka 6-2 6-3
Dellacqua/Barty – Khromacheva/Solovyeva 6-2 6-3
They didn’t bother to play the other reverse single probably for the good.
Australia will face Germany in the semifinals… hoping to have something better than that!
