Fabio Fognini has clear shot at winning his 3rd career title.
The Italian had a tricky semifinal against Nicolas Almagro to defeat him in 3 tough sets. The match was absolutely even with lots of ups and downs. Eventually Almagro scored much more points than Fognini (100 vs 87) especially for his dominance in the 2nd set.
The crucial part of the semifinal was when Fabio was leading 5-3 in the decider and he has squandered one match point. Almagro recovered to bring the third set to decider won by Fognini at 5th. See match stats
The final vs. Mayer
Fabio will face world no. 91 Leonardo Mayer that has defeated Santiago Giraldo 7-6 (2) 6-3 in the semifinal. These two have already played once in Stuttgart last year and Fabio won with a comfortable 6-1 6-3.
The favourite for the title is definitely Fognini, but he might be tired and Argentine players usually display an outstanding tennis in Latin American.
It will be an interesting final.
