Another bad news for the WTA circuit.
After Vika Azarenka has retired from Doha and Dubai, now Serena announces she won’t play in Qatar and Indian Wells.
The reasons for Serena are quite different.
In Qatar she won’t be able to play for a back injury. The world no.1 refused to play in Indian Wells as in 2001 she had a horrible experience with the local crowd and also this year… well… she doesn’t feel it’s the right environment to be back.
From Serena “After careful consideration, I will not return to the Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open this year. I send my best wishes to everyone involved in the tournament.”
From the Indian Wells tournament director “We wish her the best of luck and hope she decides to play here next year,” said Steve Simon.
