Murray, Ward beat team USA to give the Davis Cup quarters to Great Britain

Great Britain pulls out a big upset in San Diego.

As expected, Andy Murray won both singles against Young (an easy 6-1 6-2 6-3) and Querrey ( a  tougher 7-6 (5) 6-7 (3) 6-1 6-3), but the biggest upset was when world no.175 James Ward has managed to defeated Sam Querrey 1-6 7-6 (3) 3-6 6-4 6-1.

The only point the Americans won was in the doubles as the Bryans that have defeated Fleming and Inglot 6-2 6-3 3-6 6-1.

From the GB Captain

Lean Smith commented “This is a massive team effort. People don’t see the work off the court. We should be proud of the team spirit and what the guys have achieved here.

“I was saying to the guys during the week that we’ve used 11 different players over the last few years – a true team effort. It’s great to have this team spirit running through.”

Great Britain will play Italy in the quarter finals.
