Finally Kei Nishikori brings Japan to a great quarter finals Davis Cup.
The task wasn’t that impossible for the Japanese team as the Canadian no.1 and no.2 (Raonic and Pospisil) were unable to play for injuries.
Nishikori won the first match 6-4 6-4 6-4 against world no. 135 Peter Polansky. Then world no. 119 Frank Dancevic won the point for Canada against Go Soeda.
Dancevic and Nestor lost a surprising double against Nishikori and Uchiyama 6-3 7-6(3) 4-6 6-4.
Finally Dancevic retired when he was losing 1-6 0-1 against Nishikori. That was 3-1 for Canada.
“I pulled a stomach muscle hurt it in a serve in the second set and there was no way I could continue against a player like Kei.” said Dancevic
Soeda and Polansky played the dead rubber and it was the Japanese to win 6-1 6-4.
Japan will play the quarters against the defending champion Czeck Republic.
