What a great year for Ekaterina Makarova!
The world no.28 has reached the 4th round at the Australia Open and now she has just won her second career title in Pattaya beating Karoline Pliskova in straight sets . (the first was in Eastbourne in 2010)
There was not much difference between the two as Makarova won the only break in the 8th game of the first set. To win the opener 6-3. In the second set Makarova had to save two set points in tiebreak to win it at 7. View match statistics

The Czeck did compliment the Russian to comment “I think she played better than me the whole match. The last two matches I won from two match points down and from 0-3 in the third, so I just tried to stay in the match in the second set and just tried to fight, because I thought it might happen again. But it didn’t.
I was really close to getting it to a third set but she was playing too well today. And I was feeling tired in the second set already – I don’t know what the third set would have been like anyway.”
