As expected, it seems that Naomi Osaka will not play anymore in 2021. The Japanese sensation revealed that she has been struggling for long with mental issues. After crashing out from the US Open in the third round, there were doubts about her intention to keep on playing this year. Eventually, it was announced that Naomi Osaka withdrew from Indian Wells, and therefore, it is highly plausible that she will be back only in 2022.

There are also doubts about the participation of new tennis sensation Emma Raducanu. The US Open champion is expected to play in Indian Wells. Still, given her rankings prior to the US Open, she would start from the qualifications unless she receives a rather deserved wild card.
As of now, Raducanu confirmed her participation in the Kremlin Cup that will be played on the 18th of October.
