What a great success for Dominika Cibulkova!
The world no.24 pulls a great upsets beating Maria Sharapova in 3 sets. The Russian Beauty was in the match only in the first set (won by Maria 6-3), then… game over! In the second set Cibulkova got a 5-0 lead with Sharapova winning only 3 points on her serve (!!!). The Maria fought back to to win 4 consecutive games, but apparently that was too late as Dominika wrapped up the set 6-4.
The third set was also one way traffic with Dominika winning 6-1.
Finally… well Maria lost her match Maria’s way committing far too many unforced errors (45!) and double faults (8).
Sharapova: I have to look at positive things
Maria put the accent on his recovery after the 6 month hiatus taken for a injury to her shoulder “I have to look at the positives and see where I have come from in four or five months. I haven’t played a lot of tennis in those six months. So I certainly would have loved to play a little bit more before playing a Grand Slam, but this is the chance that I was given.”
Next vs. Halep
Dominika will play in the quarters against Simona Halep that has defeated Jelena Jankovic 6-4 2-6 6-0. Head to head is 2-1 for Cibulkova.
