Alexander Zverev seems to be unable to get rid of the domestic violence accusation raised by his former girlfriend, Olya Sharapova. The Russian accused Sassha of having abused her multiple times, bringing her to the brink of committing suicide. The allegations are unproven and there was no lawsuit. However, many found them credible.
The Laver Cup
According to reports, some of these episodes of domestic violence happened during the 2019 Laver Cup that was staged in Geneva.
Well-known sports journalist Ben Rothenberg has been quite vocal about the issue. He has repeatedly asked the organization and the other stakeholders to comment about the unproven allegations. He had no answers.
In the meantime, the Laver Cup Twitter account has been inundated with nasty comments about Zverev’s participation. The only action from the official account was to block all people posting nasty comments about Zverev’s presence.
Again, many tennis fans believe that the allegations are credible, even if they are unproven. Unfortunately, this is a rather big blow for the image of this otherwise entertaining event carrying the name of a huge tennis Legend with a fantastic standing. That’s a pity.

Ranked world no.4, Zverev played his last match on the 10th of September when he surrendered to world no.1 Novak Djokovic 4-6 6-2 6-4 4-6 6-2 in the semifinal in U.S. Open (draw).
This year Zverev has a compiled 43-12 record. The German has won 4 titles in 2021 in Acapulco, in Madrid, in Tokyo and in Cincinnati.
