Stefanos Tsitsipas is currently in Crete where he was supposed to play the Davis Cup. Unfortunately, that is not happening because the Greek champion has been dealing with a foot injury.

Tsitsipas’ father and coach reveal that Stefanos has been dealing with this injury for a long time. The world number 3 was already struggling at the Olympic Games. His campaign during the American swing was also hampered by the foot injury.

Talking to Cosmote TV, Apostolos revealed:

“This injury was present throughout the US tour, at the US Open, in Toronto, in Cincinnati and at the Olympics. Specialized measures were taken to deal with this problem, but it was considered necessary to rest for 2 weeks. Stefanos came here with the belief that he will play, of course.

Stefanos has been recovering all this time. Today he hit the court for half an hour, he tried things. He knows his body very well and I think he will make the decision.”

Stefanos is expected to play the Laver Cup next week. However, at this point, it is plausible that he will not compete in the event. Probably, his next target is to be fully fit for Indian Wells that will start at the beginning of October.
