Alexander Zverev is about to face Novak Djokovic in a finger-licking US Open semifinal. The German player has finally managed to find some peace after struggling for a couple of years with all sorts of issues. Sascha had some “uncharacteristic” experiences with his 2 former girlfriends.

The world number 4 used to date the German model Brenda Patea. However, the 2 parted ways after Brenda became pregnant with Sascha, who is now a father, at a very young age. Things got much nastier with his previous girlfriend, Olya Sharypova, who publicly accused Sascha of domestic abuse tarnishing his image even there was no proof of any wrongdoing.

After defeating Jannik Sinner in straight sets in the 4th round, Sascha was asked to comment on the fact that he brought the Olympic medal with him in New York. Sascha replied:

“I cuddle with it [the gold medal] at night. I don’t have a girlfriend; I don’t have anybody next to me, so the gold medal obviously sleeps next to me instead, which is very good. It’s with me here, just a little reminder of what happened last month and I kind of take the energy of that with me into the tournament here.”

However, Liz Roscher, an editor at Yahoo Sports, blasted Sascha, saying: “You know maybe alexander zverev shouldn’t make jokes about not having a girlfriend all things considered.”

According to the comments, many defended Zverev saying that he can’t be dragged down for an unproven accusation and it was just an innocent joke.
