Too hot… for too hot!
Andy Murray (with most of the players) fears that something bad may happen at the Australian Open.
The organisation insists the game should go on also when the thermometer registers 42 degrees!
Frank Dancevic collapsed on the ground after his match saying the it was inhumane playing with that kind of heat.
Peng Shuai vomited during her match and a ball boy collapsed during a match… not the sort of entertainment you expect to have at this kind of event.
Andy: It’s terrible for the sport…
Murray commented “It’s definitely something that you have to look at a bit. As much as it’s easy to say the conditions are safe, it only takes one bad thing to happen. And it looks terrible for the whole sport when people are collapsing, ball kids are collapsing, people in the stands are collapsing. That’s not great.”
…a player may have a heart attack
“I know when I went out to hit before the match, the conditions at 2.30, 3pm were very, very tough. Whether it’s safe or not, I don’t know. There’s been some issues in other sports with players having heart attacks.” he added
Some players are using the tactic to shorten the points as much as you can like Serena saying after the match “I’m just happy to still be alive.”
Murray was also lucky to win a very fast opener 6-1 6-1 6-3 against Soeda in 1 hour and 27 minutes.
