Carlos Alcaraz Garfia

Carlos Alcaraz Garfia was having a fantastic US Open until the quarter-final. During the event, the new Spanish sensation has even upset Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round after playing a fantastic match. However, Carlito’s body was severely battered after he spent so many hours on court.

Unfortunately, the 18-year-old had to withdraw in the second set when he faced Felix Auger Aliassime for a place in the semifinal.

The injury

During the press conference that followed his match against Felix Auger Aliassime, Carlito disclosed that he was struggling with his right adductor. Furthermore, he added that he is still not ready yet to play back-to-back 5-setters.

“It’s really tough to end a great tournament like this. I mean, I had no choice to still playing. I mean, first of all, I have to take care of my body, yeah, to still be healthy, no? It was a long match and, yeah, I didn’t feel good about still playing, so I had to retire. The right adductor is the principal problem for me.

I mean, to play two matches, fifth sets in a row, play at a great level, at a great intensity like four hours, it’s really tough for me. I am not used to playing these kinds of matches in a row.

Yeah, I think it’s really tough to recover to the next matches.”
