Federer to the 2nd round in Melbourne, but struggles in break points conversion

Smooth start of the tournament for Roger Federer that beats world no. 133 James Duckworth in straight sets.

This was a quick match that ended after 1 hour and 46 minutes with Roger blasting 11 aces and 30 winners. The important side of the match for Roger was that he committed only 17 unforced errors and he was never broken.

Break points disaster

Once again Roger’s break point conversion was absolutely lousy to convert only 4 break points out of 17. This is something that Federer has been struggling for sometimes to fix. It may come from the fact that his return from the AD court is not as good as from the deuce court, or the fact that he plays break points too casually.

With low ranked players it’s fine… with the very best is a huge problem.

Roger: I had to win more break points

“It was not much rhythm out there. It was a matter of getting the job done and not getting broken. So it was a solid match from start to finish. Could have maybe won a few more break points here and there, but who cares now?” commented the Maestro.

Roger will play world no. 99 Kavcic in the second round.
