Kvitova horribly upset in Melbourne first round

Nasty, nasty campaign for Petra Kvitova. The Czech was expected to challenge the very Gotha of tennis to miserably implode and lose to world no.88 Luksika Kumkhum in the first round in Melbourne.

The Czech was up to her game only in the second set when she won 6-1 after losing the opener 6-2. Everybody was expecting her to cruise also in the decider… but she couldn’t make it.

Eventually Petra committed 40 unforced errors (8 double faults). Match Stats.

From Petra

A not happy Kvitova commented “Obviously my priority was to improve my movement on the court, I didn’t show that today actually. I had a great preseason. I work very hard. I had great matches on my back and I was just trying, and probably I put a lot of pressure on my back.”
