Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas are fierce rivals and unfortunately they do not share a fantastic relationship.
Stefanos Tsitsipas has been going through a tsunami of criticism after using (and probably abusing) toilet breaks. A lot of fans were driven away from the Greek champion for using these long breaks. Unfortunately, Sascha Zverev also spread the rumor that Stefanos Tsitsipas was being coached by his father during these breaks.
After being heavily criticized by Andy Murray, Stefanos Tsitsipas said he would not stop having these long breaks even if that brings some criticism. Indeed, Stefanos had another very long break when he played at the US Open against Adrian Mannarino in the next match.
The result of this kind of behavior is that Tsitsipas has been losing many fans and the crowd often boos him.
Medvedev about Tsitsipas
During the press conference that followed his US Open third round, Daniil Medvedev was asked to comment on Tsitsipas’ behavior. The world no.2 used to have a rather difficult relationship with the crowd at the Flushing Meadows in 2019 because of his erratic behavior. However, he managed to change the opinion of the local people by acknowledging his mistakes to become a fans’ favorite.
Stefanos Tsitsipas did just the opposite by not changing his behavior and not admitting that he made a mistake in getting his long breaks. Even worse, he kept on having the same behavior.
Daniil commented:
“It’s tough to answer because a lot of things going through my head because your question is a bit tricky, in a good way (smiling).
But I want to say we all need to go to change clothes sometimes. Somebody does it five minutes, six minutes, eight minutes. What happened with him and Murray happened. He got booed. At least the next match don’t go out for eight minutes, and that’s what he did.
If you will remember 2019, I did a mistake. Well, I was not continuing to do it every other match. Otherwise, the crowd would not go behind me. That’s the only advice I can give.
I mean, he has his own life. He probably won’t listen to my advice.”
