Stefanos Tsitsipas had a rather tough experience at this US Open. The Greek sensation lost a huge number of fans after being called out numerous times for his long toilet breaks. The obvious outcome was that the world number 3 was continuously booed and definitely not supported by the crowd in New York.
Eventually, Stefanos was upset by 18-year-old Carlos Alcaraz Garfia in the third round, with the crowd supporting the young Spaniard for the entire match.
After the defeat, Stefanos Tsitsipas decided to immediately have a press conference to leave the premises as soon as possible.
Tsitispas vs. Zverev
Once again, during the press conference, Stefanos was asked to comment about his long toilet breaks and what happened with his relationship with the crowd and fans in general.
This time, Stefanos Tsitsipas hit back at Sascha Zverev who started rather publicly all this criticism against the Greek during their semi-final in Cincinnati. On that occasion, the German player accused Stefanos Tsitsipas of being coached during case toilet breaks by texting.
During the presser, Stefanos commented:
“Look, I’m not pretending that everyone loves me. I don’t want to be – my intentions are not to be loved by everyone. Every person can choose their favorite player, pick a side. I felt that way, but I kind of have ignored it. Because people don’t know, that’s the thing. When people are not really in the sport and don’t know what is happening, I mean, all these accusations have been completely false.
The one in my match in Cincinnati, which was the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard in my life. Yeah, that was –I don’t know what to say. I mean, that really shows the level of the person that said it.”
