Sam Stosur really struggles in Australia to seldom win a match. This time Sam managed to get to the semis in Hobart giving some hope to the local supporters. Unfortunately everything did fade away against Klara Zakopalova that has dismissed the Australian in 84 minutes in straight sets.
This was a real disappointment for Sam especially because she was the highest ranked player left in the draw as in the other semifinal there were two qualifiers!
Zakopalova
Klara commented. “I’m so happy I beat a player like Sammy – she’s a Grand Slam champion, so for me it’s a big victory here. I was leading 2-0 in the first set very fast and then it got to 2-all, but I just said to myself to keep going for every point. It was a tough draw and I knew she’d have the crowd behind her but I just knew I had to give 100% and we would see if it was enough or not.”
Interesting enough Sam and Klara will also play each other in the Australian Open first round.
The final vs. Muguruza
Klara will play world no. 58 Garbine Muzuruza for the title. Head to head is 1-0 for Zakopalova.
