After a couple of stressful months, Naomi Osaka is about to start her title defense at the upcoming US Open.
The Japanese sensation hit the headlines all over the world after she decided to retire from the French Open after she refused to participate in any press conference citing mental health issues. After retiring from the following Wimbledon, Naomi Osaka was back to the regular tour after the Olympic Games only on the occasion of the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati, where she lost in the third round.
Even if Naomi did not have much success in the last few months, the world number 3 revealed that she feels quite confident during the US Open press conference. She said:
“I know I haven’t played that many matches. I know that I haven’t even gotten to a quarterfinal. Actually, I feel pretty happy with how I’m playing. I feel pretty confident with where I am right now. I’m not declaring that I’ll do amazing here. I’m the one-match-at-a-time person. Hopefully, it will work out in the end.”
Naomi Osaka will face Marie Bouzkova in the first round.
Naomi Osaka and Marie Bouzkova squared off only once. Their actual head to head record is 1-0 for Osaka. When they played, Naomi Osaka won 6-2 6-4 in the 1st round in Melbourne (Australian Open) in January 2020.
