Sofia Kenin is having a rather tough season. The American sensation has a not-so-remarkable 11-10 win-loss record in 2021 and she has never managed to go beyond a quarterfinal in any tournament. A foot injury also sidelined Sofia. Furthermore, she announced a shocking split with her father, who used to be her long-time coach.
Sofia was due to be back on the occasion of the US Open after she played her last match 2 months ago in Wimbledon. Unfortunately, it was announced that the American player would not be able to participate through the American slam because she tested positive to covid-19.
This was Sofia’s statement:
“Hi guys.. I am writing with disappointing news. Recently, I tested positive for Covid-19. Fortunately, I am vaccinated and thus my symptoms have been fairly mild. However I have continued to test positive and thus will not be able to compete at the US Open next week.
I plan to spend the next several weeks getting healthy and preparing to play well this fall. Thank you all for supporting me. I want to wish all the players the best of luck in New York.”

Sofia joins a rather lengthy list of top players not playing the last major of the year. Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer already announced that they would skip the rest of the season.
Milos Raonic, Serena Williams, and Venus Williams will also miss playing the US Open because of injuries.
