Serena Williams announces that she will not play in the upcoming US Open because she has not recovered from the hamstring injury she incurred in Wimbledon.
Serena Williams was stopped by her injury when she was playing in the first round of the Championships back in June when she was opposed to Aliaksandra Sasnovich. The American legend didn’t play any tournament since then and she now announces her withdrawal from the American slam read the following message:
“After careful consideration and following the advice of my doctors and medical team, I have decided to withdraw from the US Open to allow my body to heal completely from a torn hamstring. New York is one of the most exciting cities in the world and one of my favorite places to play – I’ll miss seeing the fans but will be cheering everyone on from afar. Thank you for your continued support and love. I’ll see you soon.”
Serena has been chasing her 24th elusive slam since her pregnancy. She was very close to achieving her dream when she reaches the 4 major finals, but she was always one step short.
Unfortunately, given the fact that Serena is about to turn 40 is plausible that she will call it a career pretty soon. Let’s see.
