Naomi Osaka’s agent attacks journalist after press conference

Naomi Osaka did not seem to be in the right state of mind during the press conference in Cincinnati

Naomi Osaka

Naomi Osaka was at the center of attention when she accepted participating in a press conference in Cincinnati. The Japanese sensation has been struggling for long with mental health issues.

Recently, Naomi Osaka was particularly adverse to face the reporters during press conferences. The world number 2 retired from the French Open because she didn’t want to attend any press conference in Paris. Later, Naomi also decided not to play Wimbledon and stage a brief comeback at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

After skipping playing in Montreal, Naomi Osaka agreed to compete in Cincinnati. Unfortunately, she broke down during her first press conference when a journalist asked how she can manage to cope with 2 platforms: the official one of the tours (that she doesn’t like much) and the personal one.

The question was a legitimate one, but apparently, Naomi did not like the journalist’s tone and she broke into tears soon after replying. The Japanese sensation left the press conference for a little while, and after regrouping, she was back, answering yet another question.

Naomi Osaka’s agent

As reported by the New York Times, her agent, Stuart Duguid, was upset to release the following comment:

“The bully at The Cincinnati Enquirer is the epitome of why player/media relations are so fraught right now. Everyone on that Zoom will agree that his tone was all wrong, and his sole purpose was to intimidate.”
