Tipsarevic retires from the Chennai Open

World no.36 Janko Tipsarevic won’t be able to defend his title in Chennai.

Janko had a horrible 2013 to sink in the rankings. The last season started rather well with Tipsi winning the first tournament of the year in Chennai… and then… bye bye. He finished the year with a terrible 20-25 win-loss record as he was continuously struggling with his fitness.

The last straw was his injury to his foot that has prevented him to play the Davis Cup final against the Czech Republic.

Tipsarevic confirmed his presence in Chennai to then decline his participation “I have had a difficult three months after injuring my heel. I felt I would recover well in time for the Aircel Chennai Open but regret to say that I will not be able to take part in the tournament,” he said.

“I apologise to fans who have always supported me and waited to watch me play during matches there. Chennai was always my favorite tournament to start the new season. I really look forward to recovering quickly and getting back to playing tennis soon.”
