Serena Williams (and tennis) rules.
Once again it has been recognized that tennis is THE sport for women athletes at least in terms of earnings.
According to a recent review from Forbes, in 2018 among 10 highest-earning female athletes, 8 come from tennis, and the top 6 players are represented by our beloved sport.
The top earner is Serena Williams even though she couldn’t fully compete in the first 6 months because she was still recovering from her complicated pregnancy. Curiously, despite the fact that Serena has earned just $62,000, she made $18 million from endorsements!
Following Serena, we have the world no.2 Caroline Wozniacki that made $7 million in prize money and $6 million in endorsements (Adidas, Rolex, Usana, Babolat among them).
The world no.3, Sloane Stephens, is in the 3rd place after collecting $5.7 million in prize money and $5.5 million in endorsement (Nike, Mercedes-Benz, Rolex, Colgate, Chocolate Milk and Biofreeze)
The world no.12 Garbine Muguruza is 4th position as she earned 5.5 million in prize money and $5.5 million in endorsement. ( Babolat, Beats by Dre, Rolex, Maui Jim sunglasses and Caser Seguros insurance)
… and Simona Halep
The world no.1 Simona is ranked “only” no.8 in this particular log. She earned $6.2 million in prize money and “only” $1.5 million in endorsement (Nike).
