After 4 years Juan Martin had some memories about the best and the worse year of his career: 2009.

The Good

In 2009 the Argentine won an improbable final against a still dominant Federer in a strange way. He was the clear underdog even if he trashed Nadal in the semifinal (6-2 6-2 6-2). Roger was the 5 times champion and in the final he was dominating Juan Martin for the first set and half to then implode and concede the title to a very deserving Del Potro.

The Nasty

That made Delpo super popular in Argentina, but unfortunately he had to suffer from a very nasty injury to his wrist that has side-lined him for long long time.

Now Juan Martin reflects about the struggle he had to endure during his convalescence “I came in after the U.S. Open like the most popular person in my country, and maybe the tennis world. A few months later, nobody spoke nothing about me.”

Delpo: I didn’t know if I could play tennis again…

Then Juan Martin added “sad, I was frustrated at home. Nobody knew what was going on with my wrist. I didn’t know if I would play tennis ever again. That was my worst moment of my career.”

… now I am confident

“I’m looking forward to keep going in this way. I believe in myself. I like to be dangerous for the top guys. My game is working well at the moment. If I am healthy, and play with confidence, I know I can be a really tough opponent for the top guys, he concluded.
