Dokic happy for comeback but fails to qualify for the Australian Open

Tough luck for Jelena Dokic!

The former top 10 Australian wasn’t playing a match since 2012 (Charlestone) when she had to retire for a wrist injury. After that she had an operation and she was really struggling to comeback.

Now ranked no. 597, Jelena fails to qualify for the Australian Open as she lost to world no. 235 Jarmila Gajdosova 6-2 6-4.

The Australian didn’t sound to upset about the outcome of the match to comment ”I thought I would be a lot more nervous.  just happy to get the first one out of the way – it’s the worst one. And nearly two years out is a very long time, even for a top player. A top-five player, after two years, they’re saying, ‘Well, I’ll just be happy to get a win or two’, so where does that leave me with two years out?”
