Belinda Bencic was meant to play mixed doubles with Roger Federer at the Olympic Games in Tokyo and she was deeply disappointed after the Swiss Maestro decided to pul out. However, things went gloriously for Belinda, who won the gold medal in singles and she has a chance to win the gold also in doubles.

Roger and Belinda have a great relationship that flourished when they won together the Hopman Cup in Perth in 2018 and 2019.
Belinda Bencic revealed that Roger Federer sent her a lovely message before playing the final at the Olympic Games. Belinda commented:
“Yes, he wrote to me today. He said this was the perfect day to reach my dreams and I was really happy about that. And he was absolutely right.
He is incredible in that way; he really supports all of the Swiss players. He is behind us, and it’s just incredible the type of support I receive from Roger Federer, so this win is also for him.”

Currently the world no.12, the Swiss played her last match on the 31st of July when she overcame world no.42 Marketa Vondrousova 7-5 2-6 6-3 in the final in Tokyo to win her 5th career title.
During this season the Swiss owns a composed 23-14 win-loss record. Bencic has won 1 title in Tokyo. Bencic was the runner-up in Adelaide and in Berlin.

Ranked world no.9, Roger played his last match on the 7th of July when he was overcome by world no.12 Hubert Hurkacz 6-3 7-6(4) 6-0 in the quarter in Wimbledon (draw).
