Novak Djokovic was not sure if he would have participated in the upcoming Olympic Games. Many tennis players decided not to play because of the harsh restrictions that followed a spike in the Coronavirus infections in Japan. After winning Wimbledon, Novak Djokovic also said that he was not hundred percent sure he would participate in the Games. Eventually, he decided to go and play in Tokyo.
Novak Djokovic is chasing a historic Golden Slam after winning the first 3 majors of the year. That means that the Serbian legend will try to win in the same year the Olympic Games and the Us Open.
Djokovic has never won a gold medal so far.
The announcement
Novak announced his participation with a lovely post saying that he could not disappoint one of his Japanese fans and therefore, he decided to book a flight to Tokyo.

Ranked no.1, Novak played his last match on the 11th of July when he overcame world no.8 Matteo Berrettini 6-7(4) 6-4 6-4 6-3 in the final in Wimbledon to win his 85th career title.
This season Novak has managed to achieve a compiled 34-3 win-loss record. The Serbian has won 4 titles in 2021 at the Australian Open, in Belgrade, at the French Open and in Wimbledon. Djokovic was the finalist in Rome.
