Matteo Berrettini had a rather amazing fortnight in Wimbledon, where he reached his first slam final before losing to Novak Djokovic in 4 sets.
During a recent interview with the Italian outlet il Corriere Della Sera, Berrettini revealed that he is not as calm as it seems.
“I look peaceful, but then I think about things and I can’t sleep; I mull over for days. Managing the intense emotions of a final at Wimbledon center, for example, was not at all easy.
To calm myself down, I thought about the way to get there, to work, to travel, to the months away from home and family.
It helped me feel that I deserved that match to be that place against that opponent. Because I have committed myself and this is the proof that work pays off.”
Berrettini is now taking some time off to regroup before heading to Tokyo, where he will play the Olympic Games.
