Great stuff for Stanislas Wawrinka that reaches the semifinals at the WTF.
Wawrinka is definitely playing one of the best tennis of his career and he had a fantastic round robin in London. The Swiss has now defeated Berdych and Ferrer and has lost his only match against Nadal… a match he could have won as he was 1 break up in both sets.
The match against David Ferrer was a battle (what else against the Spaniard?). After losing the first set at the breaker, Stan won the second one taking advantage of a break in the 3rd game. Strange enough the Spaniard imploded in the decider and Wawrinka got full advantage of it to win 6-1 (3 breaks). The match ended after 2 hours and 13 minutes.
The big difference between these two was the break point conversion ( 6 out 7 for Wawrinka and 2 out of 8 for David) and the serve (14 aces and 2 double faults for Wawrinka, no aces and 4 double faults for Ferrer). Match Stats.
Wawrinka
“The beginning of the second was important saved a break point. But I was just trying to really fight with myself, not giving the match. That if he wants to beat me, he has to really find the way to beat me.” Said Stan
Next vs. Djokovic
Stan qualified for the semifinal where he will play Djokovic. Head to head is 15-2 for Nole, but Wawrinka often find his best tennis against the Serbian.
