Italy is getting the better of Russian in the Fed Cup final… but whatever the result it’s not possible that a nation like Russian plays a Fed Cup final with their player no. 12th (ranked no.136) and in the second single is the world no.236.
How did we get to this farcical final?
Well, Maria Sharapova is injured (and she doesn’t really like playing the Fed Cup), Makarova is not fully fit for an injury to her wrist, Kirilenko, Vesnina and Pavlyuchenkova are now playing in Sofia… so here we are.
The first day
By the way, at the ned of the day Italy took full advantage of the situation with a little thriller as in Rubber 1 Roberta Vinci was curiously struggling against world no.136 Alexandra Panova (a player that didn’t manage to get to the main draw of a WTA event since Febraury. Roberta was losing 7-5 5-3 to then recover and win 5-7 7-5 8-6.
Sara Errani defeated world no. 236 Irina Khromacheva 6-1 6-4 that has won only 1 match this hear and that was in the French Open qualifications.
The favourite to win this Fed Cup: Italy obviously.. but that is not much fun!
