Ajla Tomljanovic and Jelena Ostapenko played a rather tense match, with AJla Tomljanovic winning 4-6 6-4 6-2. The encounter will be remembered not for who was the winner but for the altercation that Ajla and Jelena had after the handshake.
Why the drama?
Ostapenko got a lengthy medical timeout when she was trailing 0-4 in the 3rd set for an undisclosed injury. Tomljanovic didn’t like the move to say to the supervisor:
“You know she’s lying, right? We all know. Do you know you can also make your own call, and take your own view on this situation?
Are you taking into any consideration that she looked fine for an hour and 30, and now there’s an acute injury?”
Ostapenko said: “Your behavior is terrible, terrible!”
Tomljanovic replied: “You’re the one to talk!”
Ostapenko added: “You have zero respect, yes?”
Tomljanovic ended the discussion saying: “The worst player on the tour.”
