What a nice week for Marin Cilic!
The Croatian returned to play an ATP tournament after his suspension (doping) was reduced. In his comeback match Marin had to face world no.70 Igor Sijsling. After losing the opening set, Cilic found his game to cruise in the last 2 sets. Finally Marin blasted an astonishing 21 aces to win 35 points out of 39 on his 1st serve. Match Stats.
Cilic: It was a honest mistake
Talking about his return an emotional Cilic commented “All the players, they know me and they were really happy to see me and they were really happy that this is over for me,”
“Everybody knows it was like honest mistakes, and it can happen to really anyone. I’m of course definitely against doping, against the players who are cheating, and I would say that there should be some more seminars for the players to be more aware about these things that can happen.”
Next vs. Del Potro
Marin will play Juan Martin Del Potro in the second round. Head to head is 7-2 for Delpo.
