This is what Serena Williams said about not playing the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Serena And Venus Williams

Serena Williams made it official that she will not play in the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo. Her decision was announced at the pre-Wimbledon media conference on Sunday. When asked about her Olympic plans, she answered:

“I’m actually not on the Olympic list – not that I’m aware of. If so, then I shouldn’t be on it. There’s a lot of reasons that I made my Olympic decision. I don’t feel like going into them today. Maybe another day. Sorry,”

During another press conference, a few weeks ago, Serena Williams said it very clear that she would not go to Tokyo if she was not allowed to bring along her daughter Olympia.

Sofia Kenin, Jennifer Brady and Cori Gauff are still expected to play in Japan, and probably Jessica Pegula may be the fourth player. An official list still needs to be released.

Serena won gold in the singles and women’s doubles in London 2012. In addition, she conquered two other medals in the doubles at Sydney 2000 and Beijing 2008.
