WTA Rankings: Sloane Stephens 1 step away from the top10 , Simona Halep at career high. Venus Wililams in free fall.

Last week we had a couple of tournaments in Luxembourg and Moscow that helped to move the WTA rankings.

Sloane Stephens

Sloane didn’t have a smashing tournament in Luxembourg to lose in the quarters to Stefanie Voegele, but that was enough for the young American to overtake Roberta Vinci and be ranked world no.11.

Simona Halep

The Romanian is definitely one of the greatest surprises of the season. The youngster won her 5th title in Moscow. Simona had a strange year as she blossomed only in the second part of the season. This means that she doesn’t have many points to defend in the first months of 2014 to have a strong chance to break in the top 10 rather soon.

The biggest gainer: Stefanie Voegele

Now ranked world no. 44, Stefanie is the biggest gainer of the week. The Swiss had a surprising tournament in Luxembourg to lose in the semifinal after having upset Sloane Stephens in the quarters. 10 places up

The Biggest Loser: Venus Williams

Venus ranking is not getting any good. This year she wasn’t able to play in Luxembourg (she was the defending champion) to lose 14 places and been ranked world no.53.
