Confident Federer cruises in Basel opener.

It’s always a pleasure to see Roger playing on home courts. At the beginning of the season there were some doubts about Roger’s participation in Basel, but fortunately we have him.

The crowd was pleased to see the tennis legend to play (or better cruise) against world no.62 Adrian Mannarino. The match was a 71 minutes training with Roger struggling only in the 4th game of the first set when he lost his serve. Then a piece of cake. Federer won the opener 6-4 and the second set finished 6-2.

Trying to find some holes, Roger put only 51% of his first service in (but he won 22 out of 25 points on the 1st serve) and he fired only 3 aces (and 2double faults). Once again his break points conversion rate was too low (only 31% or 4 out of 13). Match Stats

Roger: “I think it was a pretty good performance

That was not vintage Federer, but it was good enough “I think it was a pretty good performance for a first round. I had some good spells and some that were tougher. I fought through and stayed positive throughout. I kept playing aggressive, the way I would like to play for the week.”

In the next round Roger will play either Zeballos or Istomin.
