Dominic Thiem eventually did not make it. The world number 5 suffered from a wrist injury while he was playing in Mallorca, the Local ATP250. Dominic had an MRI in Mallorca, butthe results were inconclusive. Therefore, he went to Barcelona to see a specialist. The result was that he was diagnosed with a “detachment of the posterior sheath of the ulnar side of the right wrist.”

This means that Dominic will need to wear a wrist splint for 5 weeks to skip at least 3 tournaments: Wimbledon, Hamburg, and Gstaad. Just a few days before getting injured, Dominic Thiem announced that he would not have participated in the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo.

At this point, the big question mark shower caddyis if Dominic Thiem will be fit to defend that his US Open title.

With Dominic Thiem out from the Championships, Sascha Zverev will be seeded no.4. Thiem will lose only 10 points for not playing in Wimbledon. In the last edition of the Championships, he lost in the 1st round to Sam Querrey.

“After being forced to retire from his opening match at the Mallorca Championships on Tuesday due to an injury to his right wrist, Dominic Thiem travelled to Barcelona and underwent further medical examinations. Tests found that there is a ‘detachment of the posterior sheath of the ulnar side of the right wrist, an injury that will not allow him to compete in the circuit for several weeks. Thiem will wear a wrist splint for 5 weeks

before beginning a progressive process of specific, functional rehabilitation to regain mobility as well as muscle strength in his wrist and ultimately return to training on court.

Dr. Angel Ruiz Cotorro and his medical team will supervise the progress of the injury, as Thiem will undergo further MRI scans and tests, and will decide when the player is fit to return to competition. “I’m going to do everything the doctors say in order to recover as quickly as possible. They’ve informed me that I might be out for several weeks, but I will do my best to be back on court soon”, said Thiem. “I’m really sorry for pulling out of the upcoming three tournaments I had in my calendar: Wimbledon, Hamburg and Gstaad. They are very important tournaments for me. I appreciate all the support from the fans in these difficult moments – I’m determined to come back stronger”.

At the moment ranked no.5, the Austrian played his last match on the 22nd of June when he had to retire when playing against world no.42 Adrian Mannarino in the 2nd round and the scoreline was 2-5 .

Presently, during this year Thiem has managed to achieve an overall 9-9 match record. Dominic Thiem’s most significant result of the present season was reaching the semifinal in Madrid.

Currently the world no.6, Alexander played his last match on the 17th of June when he lost to world no.25 Ugo Humbert 7-6(4) 3-6 6-3 in the 2nd round in Halle (draw).
