Andrea Petkovic upsets Genie Bouchard in Luxembourg

After a successful Asian campaign where she played a stunning tennis to reach the quarters in Tokyo and the final in Osaka, going back to Europe was a little bit too much.

In fact,  after winning the opening set 6-2against Andrea Petkovic, Genie lost the second after leading 4-1 (2 breaks up) to then just implode and lose 2-6 7-5 6-1. Genie committed 6 double faults to fired 21 winners vs. Petkovic’ 38. Match Stats.

Petkovic: She put so much pressure on me.

“I really felt like she was playing great, playing really aggressively, taking the ball early, taking time away from me, and I wasn’t moving my feet at all.

She put so much pressure on me. What I really tried to do and what I’m better at now than when I was younger is I tried to stay in the moment. I do meditation every day to get in the moment and stay in the moment when it’s going downhill and I somehow managed to do that. It wasn’t easy at all and I think that’s the only way to get out of that kind of situation. And the audience also helped me turn it around.”

Next vs. Knapp

Andrea will play Karin Knapp in the next round for the first time.
